Holocaust Survivor Dr. Monique Saigal Shares Her Story with the Webb Community

Yesterday, Dr. Monique Saigal visited Webb to share her childhood memories of surviving the Holocaust and living in Nazi-occupied France during World War II.
Following her presentation, she engaged in one-on-one conversations with students, offering them a chance to connect with her experiences on a personal level. Her visit was a part of our Advanced Studies Course on Fascism.

Dr. Saigal, who taught at Pomona College for 45 years, is also an accomplished author. Her book Heroines Françaises, 1940–1945, highlights stories of resilience, including the quote she shared to close her talk: “We must not be afraid to resist against the unacceptable. Under the spell of their inestimable achievement, we regain confidence in our capacity to resist racism, antisemitism, and attacks on freedom, and above all, in our unique feminine ability to fight for the protection of those living around us.”

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Saigal for sharing her story and inspiring our community with her courage and wisdom.
