Webb Unveils the Huang Innovation Wing

On Wednesday, November 20, Webb proudly opened the doors to the Huang Innovation Wing—a dynamic new space designed to inspire and empower students in STEM, innovation, and creative problem-solving.
Featuring state-of-the-art tools and collaborative environments, the wing offers students a hands-on learning experience to explore, experiment, and master the critical skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-evolving world. This initiative significantly enriches academic opportunities, enabling deep engagement with emerging technologies, fostering groundbreaking projects, and cultivating a spirit of ingenuity that embodies Webb’s forward-thinking approach to education.

“I’m thrilled to see our students and faculty bring their creativity to life in this interdisciplinary space,” said Theresa Smith, Head of School. “By integrating cutting-edge technology into Fawcett Library—the heart of student academic life—we’ve added a new dimension to our curriculum. Faculty are already exploring innovative ways to use these resources across all disciplines, from science to the arts.”

A Closer Look at the Huang Innovation Wing

Studio A: A Hub for Creation

Studio A is equipped with cutting-edge tools, including a robotic arm, three 3D printers, a CNC machine for rapid prototyping, and a sound booth with a professional-grade soundboard—ideal for podcasts and audio projects.

Studio B: Unmatched Processing Power

Studio B houses a high-performance Mac lab featuring two Mac Pro 2023 and three Mac Studio computer stations, seamlessly connected to the 3D printers in Studio A. These systems, powered by the M2 Ultra Chip with 24-Core CPU, 60-Core GPU, 128GB Memory, and 2TB SSD, deliver unparalleled capabilities for tasks such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), ultra-fast video rendering, and professional-level film production—all at up to 8K resolution.

Collaboration Spaces: Where Ideas Take Flight

The wing also includes a modern conference room outfitted with 4K screens and adaptable mobile tables, creating the perfect environment for group study and brainstorming sessions. An upgraded projector in Library North enhances the space for film screenings and presentations, further supporting collaborative and creative endeavors.

“The Huang Innovation Wing will help nurture kids’ imagination, extend their reach and capabilities, and challenge them to innovate ethically and well,” said Director of Teaching & Learning Resources Dr. Mark Dzula.

A Grateful Acknowledgment
